The perfect break.

The perfect break isn’t just the wave you catch. It’s the break you get from the farm. An evening at Surfing for Farmers isn’t about being a good surfer. It’s about getting off farm, into the fresh air and spending a couple of hours doing something completely different. An hour in the water. A barbecue on the beach. Good people. Good yarns. Home feeling a different kind of tired.

Everyone’s welcome.

Never Surfed? Perfect. Most people who turn up haven’t. You don’t need experience, your own gear or any idea what you’re doing. Nobody’s watching, nobody’s judging and nobody expects you to stand up on your first wave. All you need to do is turn up and have a crack.

We’ve Got the rest covered. We’ll sort the surfboard, wetsuit, booties and a lesson with a qualified coach or your local surf lifesaving club. It’s all free. Just bring yourself.

Not keen to surf?  Come anyway. Honestly.  Some people spend the whole evening on the beach, helping with the barbecue or catching up with everyone afterwards. That’s a good night as far as we’re concerned. The surf gets people together. The conversations are what keep them coming back.

A typical evening.

You arrive after work, pull on a wetsuit and head into the water with a group of other farmers, farm workers and growers. Whether you spend the evening standing up on your board or laughing every time you fall off doesn’t really matter.

Afterwards, everyone heads back to the beach for a barbecue and a yarn.

It’s where stories get swapped, friendships are made and, for a little while at least, the farm isn’t the only thing on your mind.

Then it’s home with sore shoulders, a stupid grin and no trouble at all getting up the next morning.

Who’s it for?

Anyone working in rural New Zealand. Farmers. Farm workers. Growers. Dairy, sheep and beef, horticulture, arable, viticulture — it doesn’t matter what sector you’re in or whether the beach is ten minutes away or a two-hour drive.  If you need a reason to get off farm, you’re in the right place.

One thing we do ask.
For everyone’s safety, you’ll need to be a capable swimmer and comfortable in the sea. Everything else, we’ll sort.
