A Change of Gear.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for the farm is leave it behind for a couple of hours. Rural Riders is about getting off farm, hitting the trails and spending time with good people who understand rural life. Whether you’re riding for the first time or you’ve been on a mountain bike for years, there’s a place for you. Fresh air. Good company. Mud if you’re lucky.

Never Been Mountain Biking? No Worries. You don’t need to be an expert rider to come along. Every ride is split into groups based on confidence and ability, so whether you’re after an easy cruise or something a bit more full noise, you’ll be riding with people at your level. All you need is a willingness to have a crack.
What You’ll Need. Bring your bike and a helmet. That’s it. At selected locations, we’re also working to provide free bikes for those who don’t have one, making it even easier to get involved. Everything else is taken care of.
Not Keen to Ride? Come anyway. Grab a drink, help with the barbecue, or simply catch up with everyone after the ride. Some of the best conversations happen once the helmets come off. Just like Surfing for Farmers, it’s not only about the activity. It’s about the people.
A typical evening.
You meet up after work, split into groups and head out on the trails for an hour or so. Some rides are cruisy. Others are a bit more adventurous. Either way, it’s a chance to clear your head, challenge yourself and forget about the farm for a while.
After the ride, everyone gets together for a barbecue and a yarn before heading home.
Expect sore legs, a bit of mud and plenty of laughs.

Who’s it for?
Anyone working in rural New Zealand. Farmers. Farm workers. Growers. Dairy, sheep and beef, horticulture, arable, viticulture — it doesn’t matter what sector you’re in or whether the trail’s ten minutes away or a two-hour drive. If you need a reason to get off farm, you’re in the right place.
